In this episode of Profits + Prosecco Podcast, I am joined by the amazing Annie Hillman! Annie is a bookkeeper, entrepreneur, wife, and self-proclaimed numbers nerd. While starting a bookkeeping business was not what she set out to do, God had other plans. After several years in finance and the right doors opening, Atlas Bookkeeping Co. was born. Now, she’s on a mission to remove the fear that surrounds business finances and help entrepreneurs realize the usefulness their numbers hold.
But before we dive right in, welcome to the Profits + Prosecco Podcast! I’m your host, Katie Ferro, CPA, reformed rule follower, creator of Booked Out Bookkeeper, mom to 3 little ones, and Kajabi enthusiast.
This podcast is for entrepreneurs who desire to change their life through their profitable business, and for bookkeepers and accountants who want to escape the 9-5 and start a simple scalable bookkeeping business like I did.
Bookkeeping increases profits and profits change lives. So pop some bubbles and let me show you how!
In this episode, we are going to dive into bookkeeping as a whole and why your service matters. For even more juicy details, listen to ALL of episode 18 of the Profits + Prosecco Podcast on your fave streaming platform.
Annie knew for a while that the job she was in wasn't going to be a forever one. She always knew in her heart that she wanted some kind of freedom.
She didn't know exactly how she was going to do it but once her and I connected, my Booked Out Bookkeeper™ (BOB) program proved to her that she was meant for something bigger.
This sparked the courage to quit her job and ever since, she has been full-time in her own bookkeeping business!
When Annie had joined the BOB program, she had a clear idea of what she wanted to achieve. She had the determination, BOB just gave her the tools to go after her goals and achieve it faster than if she had gone about it alone.
What we do as bookkeepers is the best investment anybody can make.
I’m able to transform my clients by killing it in sales and helping them take on their own transformation. When I see my clients succeeding, it's constant validation that the things Annie and I do are BEYOND helpful.
When stepping into the world of accounting, you don't get to be very creative. Whereas when you start building your own business like Annie, that’s where the fun and creativity comes into play! It’s the beauty behind building your own bookkeeping business.
When you're working in corporate, let's be honest, you are deep in the trenches. You have no time to think, to dream, or to scheme!
You are literally working nonstop just to survive and pay the bills it seems. This type of feeling doesn't exist when you start your own business, because the services you provide will transform your life along with SO many others.
This was Annie’s biggest motivation for wanting to start her bookkeeping business. She wanted to master her own schedule without being chained to a desk 24/7. She’s never felt more creative in her life since she quit her job.
Now, she sees how well her personality fits with bookkeeping because she's constantly meeting new clients and learning new things. Her new philosophy in life is working to LIVE, not living to WORK.
There are so many amazing things that come out of bookkeeping.
Here’s just a few examples…
The monthly recurring revenue.
The repeatable monthly process.
...and it's easy to do if you understand it!
I fell in love with bookkeeping once I started seeing how much it changes lives. It is constantly increasing profits and it's super cool to be a part of that because it makes my job so rewarding.
For Annie, bookkeeping has allowed her to live her life and create the business she wants to. It has been such a bonus and added blessing in her life to get to work with people and help them chase their dreams.
It was an unexpected thing that happened in her life but she wouldn't change it for the world.
If you want to live the life you’ve always dreamt of and start creating amazing opportunities for yourself, Annie’s advice is to TAKE THE LEAP!
Granted, it can be intimidating when you first make such a big decision. Annie shares that she felt a lot of pressure because she was now in charge of making a lot of business decisions. But now, bookkeeping has created SO much growth for Annie and it’s been well worth all of the initial fear she felt.
I hope this episode inspires you if you’ve been thinking about starting your very own bookkeeping business. Since being in bookkeeping, Annie has nearly MATCHED her previous salary and is continuing to grow! Remember, the sky's the limit and you are your only obstacle. Annie is living proof of that.
